Kejadian tersebut disedari penduduk kira-kira pukul 8 pagi ini apabila terkejut melihat sepanjang pesisir pantai berkenaan tiba-tiba bertukar warna 'putih' ekoran kehadiran ikan spesies laut dalam itu. Walau bagaimanapun, keadaan panik itu hanya sekejap sahaja apabila situasinya bertukar menjadi pesta dengan penduduk beramai-ramai mengambil kesempatan 'memunggah' ikan itu ke daratan. Difahamkan ikan tamban amat popular dalam kalangan nelayan dan penduduk sekitar, malah merupakan antara ikan utama yang dijual di pasar pada harga antara RM3 dan RM5 sekilogram. Menurut sumber Jabatan Meteorologi dilaporkan hmetro.com.my, fenomena itu adalah yang pertama kali berlaku di kawasan itu dan menafikan dakwaan bakal berlaku tsunami.
