WikiSabah News: Penampang State Library being left to rot Posted: 23 May 2012 02:32 AM PDT PENAMPANG - Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) has criticised the State Government for leaving Penampang State Library building to rot. Information Chief, Chong Pit Fah said that with the present state of the building at Donggongon Town, it would not be long that another state library building is declared unsafe. "We are puzzled why the government is not bothered with the upkeep of an important facility for the Penampang district. Kota Kinabalu City has already lost its library. He said the Penampang library building was in terrible shape with signs of its foundation sinking such as the cracks on the walkway besides the building. "There are also holes here and there on the roof gutter, bird's soil on the window glasses. It is really shameful to have this very important facility being left in a horrible situation," he said. The walls are cracking, the drainage covers missing and even the road going to the library is full of pot holes, he said.Chong said the library is catering to thousands of students in the Penampang vicinity and it's the nearest for them after the Kota Kinabalu City Library had been closed down as it was declared unsafe. "This is another example of the Barisan Nasional (BN) apathetic attitude towards the need of the people," he said. "Will the Penampang folks have to go to the Megalong shopping complex to go to the library, just like what happened to the Kota Kinabalu State Library, which had been moved to the Suria Sabah mall?" he asked.Chong said the government and the local authority concerned must give an explanation for the reason the Penampang State Library building is rotting. |
