KK – TAMBUNAN – <b>KENINGAU</b> « Blog Ittewww Posted: 03 Jun 2011 07:04 PM PDT Jalan KK – Tambunan Jalan-jalan Di Bawah Bayu: Day Three Part I KK – Tambunan – Keningau – Tenom – Tomani – Sipitang – Beuafort Hari ketiga di KK, luka dilutut makin parah dan bernanah. Haku cuma usap ubat krim yg doktor Pusrawi beri minggu lepas. Ubat telan yg lain habis sudah. Jadi, dari KK haku pegi ikut jalan Tambunan. Jalan menyusuri tebing gunung yg tinggi dan curam. Ikut bontot lori dan potong lori. Dipendekkan citer, sampi kt Tambunan, sempat singgah kat Tugu Peringatan Mat Salleh. Memang dulu haku ada bajar tentang pahlawan negeri Sabah yg ini, tapi dengan adanya tugu haku lebih memahami dan dapat merasai keadaan rakyat jelata dibawah kongkongan penjajah British masa itu. Pemandangan perkampungan sawah padi kawasan Tambunan memang cantik kerana dikelilingi banjaran gunung disebelah kiri dan kanan. Tiba di Keningau, hampir 3 jam dari KK. Jumpa anak buah dan mengeteh di restoran Sri Keningau. Pastu haku solat jemuah di masjid at-Taqwa. Masjid yg agak besar tapi jemaah yg boleh dikira berapa saja safnye. Masa haku google cari informasi tentang Mat Salleh, tetiba terjumpa Yahoo Answer: Why do we address 'orang putih' mat salleh? Here in Sabah I was once told that Westerners are called Mat Salleh because of the historical figure Mat Salleh in Sabah. He was opposed to the British North Borneo Chartered Company rule and finished waging a personal war against them. His best known feat is the ransacking and burning down of the English trading post on Gaya Island off present-day Kota Kinabalu. He was later besieged by the English at Tambunan, and might or might not have been killed during the final attack. Subsequently the English razed his fort, and Mat Salleh became somewhat of a mystical hero, labelled 'Sabah's first Freedom Fighter' by the present government. It remains unclear to me though how his name became synonymous with white men. Mat Salleh, by the way, is not derogatory here in Sabah though it is not very flattering either. It is sliding now towards the lower end. I like the 'Mad Sailor' explanation though, it kind of makes more sense to me than the switch from a local warlord to a synonym for Westerners. Bersambung.
